2019 Eight semi- finalists 

New York, N.Y. (November 18, 2019) – The Friends of John Mackey have announced 8 semi- finalists for the 2019 John Mackey Award. They are: Harrison Bryant (SR, Florida Atlantic), Hunter Bryant (JR, Washington), Brycen Hopkins (SR, Purdue), Brevin Jordan (SO, Miami), Charlie Kolar (SO, Iowa St), Albert Okwuegbunam (JR, Missouri), Colby Parkinson (JR, Stanford) and Giovanni Ricci (SR, Western Michigan).
The 8 semi-finalists were determined by confidential balloting of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The recipient will be announced December 11th and presented live December 12th at The Home Depot Red Carpet Show: 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Announcements can be found at

New York, N.Y. (October 22, 2019) – The John Mackey Award has named Matt Bushman of BYU as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The outstanding junior had a career performance in BYU’s 28-25 upset win over No. 14 Boise State this past Saturday. He posted five receptions for 101 and two touchdowns, setting career bests for receiving yards and touchdowns in a game.
His first score came on a 4th down where the Cougars faked a QB sneak and Bushman slipped past the defense for a 27-yard touchdown over the middle. His second score came on a reverse flea flicker where he was wide open down the sideline for a 39-yard score, tying his career long reception. Honorable mentions for week eight include Charlie Kolar of Iowa State, Hunter Long of Boston College and Joey Magnifico of Memphis.

New York, N.Y. (October 15, 2019) – The John Mackey Award has named Brycen Hopkins of Purdue as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Big Ten Conference junior was outstanding finishing with 10 receptions for 140 yards, both career highs, in a win over Maryland. His ten receptions are the most by a Purdue tight end since former Mackey Winner Tim Stratton in 2001. This is the second time this season Hopkins has received this weekly honor. Honorable mentions for week seven include of Mitchell Brinkman of Northern Illinois and Kyle Pitts of Florida.

New York, N.Y. (October 1, 2019) – The John Mackey Award has named Cheyenne O’Grady of Arkansas as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Southeastern Conference senior had arguably the best game of his college career turning in career highs with eight catches for 91 yards in a close loss to Texas A&M. Honorable mentions for week five include Harrison Bryant of FAU, Charlie Kolar of Iowa State and Noah Gray of Duke. The 2019 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 11, 2019 and then presented live on December 12, 2019 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

New York, N.Y. (September 24, 2019) – The John Mackey Award has named Cole Kmet of Notre Dame as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The junior had the best game of his collegiate career achieving career highs in catches with nine, receiving yards with 108 and also scored his first career touchdown this past weekend against Georgia. Honorable mentions for week four include Jacob Breeland of Oregon and Giovanni Ricci of Western Michigan.

New York, N.Y. (September 10, 2019) – The John Mackey Award has named Pat Freiermuth of Penn State as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Big Ten Conference sophomore finished with eight catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Buffalo. Both touchdowns came in the third quarter when the game was still hanging in the balance. Honorable mentions for this week include Jacob Breeland of Oregon, Denzel Carter of Tulsa and Kyle Fourtenbary of WKU.

New York, N.Y. (October 17, 2018) – John Mackey Award has named Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson of Iowa as TE of Week. A monster game totaling 209 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns as Iowa beat Indiana 42-16. Fant finished with 4 catches for 102 receiving yards and a touchdown. New York, N.Y. (October 3, 2018) – The John Mackey Award has named Josh Oliver of San Jose State as Tight End of the Week. The Mountain West Conference senior matched a career-high with 8 receptions for a single-game career best 158 yards and one touchdown in a 44-41 five-overtime loss to Hawaii. Oliver’s night included a 14-yard touchdown reception which extended the Spartans’ lead to 24-16 in the third quarter. He also caught a career-best 70 yard reception in the contest. Oliver’s 158 receiving yards are the most by a Spartan playing any position in a single game since the 2013 season. Complete press release

The Ravens selected the Oklahoma product in the third round...Andrews is a dynamic receiving threat who was a unanimous first-team All-American last year and won the Mackey Award as the nation’s best tight end. Daniel Graham inducted into University of Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame

JOHN MACKEY AWARDDANIEL GRAHAM
Congratulations to 2001 John Mackey Award winner Daniel Graham on being inducted into the 14th class of the University of Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame. Following a senior season at Colorado that saw him honored as the nations most outstanding tight end, he was drafted in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2002 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots.  He won two Super Bowls in New England from 2002-06.  In 2007, he came back home to the Denver Broncos where he was a captain through the 2010 season.  He also played for the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints before retiring before 2013 season.

New York, N.Y. (October 26, 2016) – The John Mackey Award has named Bucky Hodges of Virginia Tech as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Atlantic Coast Conference junior set a career high in catches (7) while scoring 2 touchdowns and tallying 66 receiving yards in a 37-16 win over Miami, FL. Hodges’ first touchdown made it 13-3 and his 2 touchdown early in the third quarter sealed the deal putting VT up 23-9. This outstanding performance and win puts Virginia Tech back in the Top 25. New York, N.Y. (October 19, 2016) – The John Mackey Award has named Michael Roberts of Toledo as the Tight End of the Week. The Mid-American Conference senior set career highs in catches (6), yards receiving (94) and touchdowns (3) in Toledo's 42-35 win over arch-rival Bowling Green. He was credited with a career-long 41-yard TD reception in the first quarter, a 22-yard TD catch in the second and a five-yard scoring reception in the third. For the season, Roberts has reeled in a team-high nine TD catches, tied for the most in UT annals by a tight end as well as tied for third overall in program history.  Toledo is now 5-1 on the season.  complete press release

New York, N.Y. (October 12, 2016) - The John Mackey Award has named Cam Serigne of Wake Forest as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. He played an integral role in Wake Forest’s victory this past week and has been a major contributor to Wake Forest’s 5-1 start to the season. Serigne had four catches for 68 yards but his contribution was far more important than the box score suggests. In a game without much passing offense, Serigne accounted for 49% of his teams overall receiving yards and three of his four catches extended drives leading to eventual scores. His big 28-yard catch in the fourth quarter helped seal the win for Wake Forest. complete release

​​New York, N.Y. (October 5, 2016) - The John Mackey Award has named Nigel Kilby of Eastern Michigan as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The freshman had a breakout performance as EMU upset Bowling Green 28-25. Kilby caught five passes for 92 yards a big touchdown that put EMU ahead 21-10. Kilby set career highs in every major stat category in this game. Honorable mentions for this week's John Mackey Tight End of the Week are Gerald Everett of South Alabama and Mike Gesicki of Penn State.

​New York, N.Y. (September 28, 2016) - The John Mackey Award has named Cole Hikutini of Louisville as the John Mackey TE of the Week. The Atlantic Coast senior recorded 4 catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Hikutini tied a career high in catches and touchdowns in a single game and had the most receiving yards of his career aside from his Bowl performance last season. His second touchdown of the game gave his team a 21-point lead that they would never look back from as Louisville defeated Marshall 59-28.

​New York, N.Y. (September 21, 2016) - The John Mackey Award has named CJ Conrad of Kentucky as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The Southeastern Conference sophomore made a statement with the best game of his young collegiate career. Conrad exploded for 5catches and a career high 133 yards and three touchdowns. One of his three touchdowns went for 72 yards, by far the longest of his career. Conrad’s contribution was a major factor in Kentucky’s 62-42 win over New Mexico State.

The American Athletic Conference senior caught a career-high six passes for 41 yards including a tip-toe, one-yard touchdown reception just across the goal line to spark the Tigers’ 31-point scoring onslaught as the team came back from a 14-0 deficit. The late, first-quarter touchdown reception was the second of his season and 13th of Cross’ career as he added to his already set school record for touchdown receptions by a tight end. The freshman had a breakout game with 6 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. His 29-yard touchdown reception gave Louisville the lead with 6:41 remaining in the fourth quarter before the team would go on to lose to Houston 34- 31. New York, N.Y. (December 9, 2015) – The Friends of John Mackey have announced Hunter Henry of Arkansas as the 2015 John Mackey Award recipient. In his three years playing at Arkansas, Henry has established a reputation for his elite blocking ability and strong receiving prowess and 2015 was another outstanding year for him. The junior recorded 46 receptions for 647 yards and 3 touchdowns & led all SEC Tight Ends in receptions, receiving yards and first downs. His outstanding blocking has been on display all season as Henry hasn’t allowed a sack or even a quarterback hurry this year. Henry, who hasn’t dropped a pass this season, will now lead his team to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Kansas State. Henry has totaled 111 receptions, 1,569 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns in his college career & his Mackey win makes history as Arkansas now becomes the only school in the 16 year history of the John Mackey Award to have multiple award winners. D.J. Williams was the first Arkansas Tight End to win the Mackey in 2010.

Two-time Super Bowl Champion and John Mackey Award recipient (2001) Daniel Graham received his degree from University of Colorado this May. His major was Ethnic Studies and his graduation is scheduled for December 2015.

In his four years playing at Florida State, O’Leary has established a reputation for his elite blocking ability and strong receiving prowess and 2014 was another outstanding year for him. The senior recorded 47 receptions for 614 yards & seven touchdowns and his outstanding blocking helped Florida State average 34.8 points and 434.7 yards of total offense. Nick will now lead his team to the Rose Bowl and a shot at the College Football Playoff National Championship.  In addition to winning the Mackey Award, O’Leary was named a Midseason First Team All-American by Phil Steele, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBSSports.com and NFL.com. He has also earned First-Team All-ACC honors. O’Leary has totaled 113 receptions, 1,587 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his college career making him the all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns by a Florida State tight end and second all-time for touchdowns by a tight end in the ACC.

New York, N.Y. (December 11, 2013) Friends of John Mackey has announced Austin Seferian-Jenkins of Washington as the 2013 John Mackey Award recipient. The trophy will be presented to Seferian-Jenkins on December 12th, live on ESPNU. press release here.

The John Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 22 awards boast over 700 years of tradition-selection excellence. NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.

The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, recognizes fourteen alumni that have played in the NFL: two-time Super Bowl Champion Daniel Graham (‘01), 2006 Super Bowl Champion Dallas Clark (‘02), Kellen Winslow II (‘03), two-time Super Bowl Champion Heath Miller (‘04), Marcedes Lewis (‘05) of the Jacksonville Jaguars, 2008 Super Bowl Champion Matt Spaeth (‘06), Fred Davis (‘07), Chase Coffman (‘08), D.J.
